Niteroi

Yesterday morning we decided to take a trip across the bay to a city called Niteroi. We went on a bridge that gave us a beautiful view of the Guanabara Bay. We then entered a military base (turned museum) called Fortaleza de Santa Cruz da Barra which is a fortress built in 1612 to protect the area from anybody trying to invade. One of the soldiers took us on a tour on the fortress and we got to see the cannons and the holding cells where they kept pirates and prisoners. After the tour we went to a restaurant near our house called Joaquina and had a delicious meal then came home. Today we are leaving for Petropolis, a town about an hour away to stay with Tia Lulu's sister for about four days. We are packed and ready but we might not be able to post from Petropolis so if not we will post on Friday!

  1. Hi Azu and Nisa! -- Good fotos -- interesting area. So....Petropolis is said to be very different from the hustle and bustle of Rio! By the way -- forgot to ask: how did it go at the ballet? Did you take some fotos there? Post 'em if so! I gather that Sheila and Jimmie have since departed -- yes? I haven't checked into FB in past few days --
Look forward to your next fotos and posts! xoxoxo Grandma G
